Volunteering

Number 3 has a very small staff team so we rely on and are very grateful to our amazing team of volunteers who support us to run our social activity program. Our volunteers are active throughout Perth and Kinross and provide support to many aspects of our work, the main areas being:

Social Drop-In – supporting adults who attend our drop-ins in Perth and Blairgowrie to socialise and take part in unscheduled activities such as pool, board gaming, computer gaming, chess, cards and discussions.
Special Interest Groups – facilitating specific activity groups such as art, music, photography and sports.

Driving-  our organisation has the opportunity to use council minibuses which allows us to go on trips and to access activities that we could not normally access via public transport. Our volunteer minibus drivers must hold a category D1 driving licence and be willing to complete a MIDAS course.

We have volunteering opportunities during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. There are new social events starting all the time, so new volunteer opportunities are always available.

What do we expect from volunteers?
  • An interest in helping people to get out more and learn new skills.
  • A sociable, outgoing and friendly nature.
  • A regular, but not necessarily lengthy, time commitment.
  • A tolerant, non-judgmental approach.
  • Reliability.
  • A willingness to learn.
What can volunteers expect from us?
  • Training.
  • Regular management support.
  • Expenses paid promptly.
  • Opportunities for personal development.
  • Fun – it is important to us that you enjoy your volunteering experience.

Volunteer Training

All volunteers are given induction training. The first session looks specifically at Autism (what it is, communication differences etc.). The second is concerned with the practical side of volunteering at Number 3 (confidentiality, boundaries, health and safety etc.).

In addition, volunteers will be given the opportunity to develop their skills through further training. This may be internal training or external courses provided by relevant professionals.

Anyone interested in volunteering at Number 3 should contact us by emailing  perthoss@aiscotland.org.uk or by calling 01738 449327 to arrange to come in for an informal chat.
